Afton is one of 12 towns in Lincoln County Wyoming along the western slope of the Wyoming range that make up the Star Valley area. The population was 1,818 at the 2000 census. Afton is home to the world's largest elk horn arch. Spanning 75 feet (23 m) across the four lanes of US Highway 89, the arch consists of 3,011 elk antlers and weighs 15 tons. The Star Valley area is surrounded by 3 National Forests as well as bordered to the North by the Palisades Reservoir. It is located on Highway 89 near the Idaho border and is 35 miles from Jackson Hole, Wyoming and 100 miles from Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
