About Big Piney

Big Piney, dubbed the “Icebox of the Nation”, is a small town of about 450 in western Wyoming. Life here centers on ranching and the oil & gas industry.

Many of the families here can trace their roots back several generations to the days when trappers & loggers lived here and then immigrants passed through as part of the Oregon Trail migration. Each year the town celebrates the 4th of July with Chuckwagon Days, including a parade, rodeos, town picnic and fireworks.

The new Roping Arena hosts rodeos, cuttings & ropings and other equestrian events throughout the summer. In August the Sublette County Fair is held at the fairgrounds just north of Big Piney bringing folks from all over the county to participate in the events and showings.
